March Into the Sea With Salt Water Fishing Equipment

from:

Most types of angling require nothing more than a simple rod and reel, bait and well stocked freshwater lake. There are, however, several different methods angling. Saltwater fishing is a unique experience that has it's own feel and style to it. Although not as popular as freshwater angling, saltwater fishing is a very fun and exciting way to fish.

Saltwater fishing equipment is fundamentally the same as freshwater equipment, except that it is usually made to be stronger and more durable. Saltwater fishing equipment must be able to handle fish that weigh a whole lot more than freshwater fish. Also, saltwater fishing equipment must be able to withstand the effects of the salt within the water. When shopping for or renting saltwater fishing equipment, one must have an idea for what type of fish he or she is angling for, the type of equipment used will be more effective if it is catered to the fish you're angling for.

Reels made for saltwater fishing are usually open faced and not closed. However, the type of open reels used is a bit different from the types used in freshwater angling. The saltwater fishing reel is usually made of tough, durable metals that are treated to withstand rust and other ailments. Also, its durability ensures that when you hook that blue marlin, your reel will not shatter into a thousand pieces.

Not only is the saltwater fishing reel more durable, so is the rod used. Reinforced composite materials are used to create a rod capable of maintaining structural integrity when reeling in a fifty plus pound fish. Since the fish in the sea are bigger, the test of the fishing line used has to be stronger. Saltwater fishing requires line tests of a hundred pounds or more. This is essential to catching almost anything in the sea.

Saltwater fishing equipment must be bigger and all around more durable than any other type of angling equipment even down to the hook. Hooks used to catch large saltwater fish are about ten times the size of a normal fishing hook. The hook has to be bigger to get a good grip on the fish and to be able to withstand a ferocious fight. Usually, saltwater fishing hooks are made of a stronger metal compound those normal freshwater fishing hooks. These hooks are usually baited with minnows or other small fish to lure the fish to bite.

So, in conclusion, saltwater fishing is a fun and exciting event to enjoy. It can become a memory cherished for years to come.
