The Big Game Of Sport Fishing Equipment
from:Most of us are content to spend a cool morning relaxing by our favorite fishing hole, waiting for the fish to bite. Some, however, are not. Going out into the sea to lure and catch 'the big one' and the thrill of reeling it in is what drives another type of fisherman, the sport fisherman. Fishing for sport, also called big game fishing, is an exciting style of angling that focusing on catching game for show rather than for consumption. Sport fisherman is given a certain amount of time in a certain spot on a body of water, the score is determined by the weight of the fish. He who has the most points wins. Sometimes there are alternate scoring methods, but this is the most widely used method. It can be an adrenaline filled event, if you have the right sport fishing equipment.
The hunt is on, but you have to make sure that the fish you're after isn't going to become 'the one that got away'. The key is to have durable and effective sport fishing equipment. Although the equipment you decide to buy will be determined what specific model equipment you use, big game fishing is still done bare bones, that is, with a rod, reel and hook. But choosing the right sport fishing equipment can be difficult, and it's important to know the basics about what you're buying.
Sport fishing rods are usually made to tailor a specific type of fish, however, all are made out of tough, composite material such as fiberglass. The length and sturdiness of the pole is determined by what fish it's designed for luring. Smaller weaker rods are used for smaller fish, while the larger thicker ones are used for larger game, like marlin. No matter what game you're after, choosing the right rod is a very important part of having the right sport fishing equipment.
Reels used for sport fishing are the same used for saltwater fishing. The reels are usually open faced, with smooth flowing reel in. They're usually made of resilient metal alloys and are designed to withstand rusting for a period of time. Cleaning your reel properly is an important part of upkeep, and can be essential to keeping your sport fishing equipment in top condition.
The real catch is finding the right lures for the fish you're after, and there's no shortage of variety. Usually, the sport angler will use a specially designed metallic object known as a 'spoon' to attract game. Also, special scent beads are used, as well as metal spinning 'blades', effective for luring in game. Again, you're lure will attract a certain fish, so know about your hunt and know what attracts it.
Sport fishing can be a thrilling experience and a rewarding hobby, but remember, a fisherman is only as effective as his gear.
